The controlled designation of origin : The guarantee of a native product
....and the tradition of a great fruit !
Originating from the East, walnuts have been introduced in Europe by the Romans. As the history goes by, the names given to the fruit changed,"nux", "noiz","Jovis glans" or "walnuts of Jupiter". The culture of orchards is a long "dauphinoise" tradition. At the end of XIX century, the silkworms disease divastated the blackberries culture and the phylloxera decimated the vineyards. The orchard was then cultivated intensively in the "Bas-Dauphiné" region, and more precisely in the "Grésivaudan" region. Today, the walnuts of Grenoble, one of the rare fruit in France that benefits from the A.O.C "controlled designation of origin", contribute to the reputation of the region also well known for its touristic treasures. Its tasty flavour and the generous size of its golden kernels come from particularly favorable conditions for its culture ... but the quality of the walnuts of Grenoble is also explained by the producers'commitment to guarantee the maintenance of this quality. |
